When applied, shrink wrap tape should be lightly heated to warm the adhesives if it is applied in cold or damp weather.
Shrink Wrap Tape (sometimes called Heat Shrink Tape) comes in rolls that
are 2", 4" or 6" wide by 180' long (also available by the case for
easier handling).
Warning #1: It will not accept much heat before melting so a light warming works best. Also, when applying heat shrink tape, it should be cut, rather than ripped, so there is a smooth end that can be pressed down on the shrink wrap. The edges of the tape should also be pressed down firmly to eliminate loose edges where dirt and moisture can get under the tape and break the adhesion.
Warning #2: Heat Shrink Tape does not have UV inhibitors, and therefore is
not designed to be stuck to the boat hull or painted areas, as it will leave an adhesive residue. Refer to
Hull Preservation Tape for adhering shrink wrap film edges to gel coat or painted surfaces. Refer to
Anti-Chafe Tape to protect delicate surfaces or Plexiglas from abrasion.
